What is Theradome® Low-Level Laser Therapy?

Prescribed by our Hair Transplant doctors, Theradome® low-level laser therapy is effective as both a standalone hair regrowth treatment or as a post-transplant recovery protocol to reactivate weak hair roots and boost cellular energy from the comfort of home.

Are you a suitable candidate?

Theradome® Low-Level Laser Therapy is an ideal, non-invasive treatment for both men and women seeking to strengthen existing hair, arrest progressive thinning, or optimise graft growth following a hair transplant. Because laser light acts directly on cellular mitochondria to increase vascular activity and cellular ATP production, it is effective across multiple stages of hair restoration. Ideal candidates include:

  • Early-to-Moderate Hair Thinning: Men and women experiencing early hair loss or miniaturisation who want a non-surgical, chemical-free way to stimulate thicker hair growth.
  • Post-FUE Hair Transplant Patients: Individuals recovering from a surgical hair transplant who want to accelerate healing, reduce post-operative inflammation, and promote rapid regrowth in recipient areas.
  • Patients Seeking Home-Based Convenience: Individuals looking for a medically proven, hands-free therapy that fits seamlessly into a daily or weekly routine without frequent clinic visits.

During your initial assessment at our Glasgow clinic, our Hair Transplant Doctors will examine your scalp under trichoscopy to confirm whether Theradome® therapy is the optimal primary or complementary choice for your treatment plan.

Elscott Medical Approach

We have been highly impressed with the outcomes from patients using the Theradome®; unlike standard LED caps or low-power consumer devices, the Theradome® VL680 / PRO system applies laser light tailored specifically to the optimal wavelength required to penetrate the scalp tissue to a depth of 3-5mm.

The targeted laser photons trigger a process known as photobiomodulation, which awakens dormant hair follicles, shifts miniaturising hairs back into the active growth (anagen) phase, and increases microvascular blood flow across the entire scalp.

The procedure

This is the typical treatment protocol for a patient to whom we’ve prescribed Theradome® low-level laser therapy at home.

  1. Prescription & Setup: We assess your scalp density and prescribe a custom treatment schedule tailored to your specific hair loss stage or post-surgical timeline.
  2. Hands-Free Operation: You wear the lightweight, cordless Theradome® helmet at home for 20 minutes per session, typically 2 to 4 times per week depending on your plan.
  3. Targeted Delivery: 80 custom-engineered coherent lasers deliver uniform coverage across the entire scalp, ensuring optimal energy dosage to miniaturising or newly transplanted follicles without producing heat or discomfort.
  4. Surgeon Monitoring: During periodic follow-up appointments at Elscott Medical, our Hair Transplant Doctors track your hair density, shaft diameter, and overall regrowth progress via high-resolution trichoscopy.

Recovery and results

Theradome® low-level laser therapy is completely non-invasive, painless, and carries zero downtime or adverse side effects. Patients can comfortably read, work, or relax during each 20-minute automated session.

  • Weeks 1 – 8 (Cellular Activation): Scalp inflammation decreases, dermal blood circulation improves, and excessive hair shedding begins to stabilise. For post-transplant patients, graft retention is optimised and donor/recipient healing is accelerated.
  • Months 2 – 4 (Vascular Expansion): Miniaturising follicles receive increased oxygen and nutrient supply, leading to thicker, stronger hair shafts emerging from previously dormant roots
  • Months 6+ (Visible Regrowth & Density): Hair density, shaft diameter, and overall coverage improve noticeably. Continuous use maintains long-term follicle longevity and protects native hair against further DHT-mediated miniaturisation

Men or Women experiencing thinning or for patients post-FUE transplant

“Theradome® allows us to extend clinical-grade photobiomodulation directly into our patients’ homes. By delivering targeted laser energy directly to the hair mitochondria, we can arrest miniaturisation in early-stage thinning or significantly accelerate follicle recovery after an FUE transplant.”

Frequently Asked Questions

LED devices emit diffuse, non-coherent light that loses power at the surface of the scalp and cannot penetrate deep enough to reach the hair root. Theradome® uses proprietary coherent laser diodes calibrated to a precise 678nm wavelength, delivering targeted energy 3-5mm beneath the scalp surface directly to the dermal papilla cells for maximum therapeutic effect.

Yes, exceptionally so. When integrated into a post-transplant regime under our guidance, low-level laser light reduces post-operative edema and redness, enhances microvascular healing around micro-incisions, and encourages newly implanted grafts to emerge quicker from their resting phase.

No. The Theradome® protocol is designed for maximum efficiency, requiring just 20 minutes per session, typically 2 to 4 times a week depending on your personalised treatment plan

Absolutely. At Elscott Medical, we frequently combine Theradome® LLLT with targeted medical trichology prescriptions, biostimulant therapies (such as Exosomes), or FUE microsurgery as part of a complete, full-spectrum hair longevity roadmap.
